  • What happens in a month...

[Sidenote: I haven't updated anything since March. Whoops! Well, I finished my internship in Detroit, went to New Staff Training with CCC this summer, got placed at Michigan State, and got engaged to Nate!  Wow!  That's a lot of life.]

I’ve been home long enough that I realize I do want to do this blog.  I need that place where the thoughts just collect, even if it is just for my own sanity.  I thought I’d reflect back on the past month and see what has happened.

    1. I finally got unpacked and used to living at home with my parents again. (There are big tubs in the garage with stuff that I don’t know what to do with)

    2. I have been blessed to catch up with lots of friends—Lauren, Rachel, Jamie, Melody, Sara…just to name a few.

    3. I have started getting into the flow with support and wedding planning.  Whew!

    4. I have learned that both support and wedding planning are long term projects that take patience, endurance, perseverance, creativity, flexibility, and a good dose of the Holy Spirit in my life each moment.

    5. I have booked a church, figured out a reception, looked at photographers, flowers, catering, tried on dresses, looked at a million websites and magazines, make a guest list, made a website, talked to bridesmaids, looked at cakes, and agonized over budgets with my parents.

    6. I have adjusted to driving betty the buick once again after a summer apart.  She needs a good oil change this week, too.

    7. I have found a new doctor, had a physical, tb test, fingerprints, and got all my forms in to start substitute teaching.

    8. I have managed to not yet slip into a slacker mode just because I work from home doesn’t mean I can’t have some structure to my day and be disciplined.

    9. Probably a bunch of other things too…

Most of all, I have been encouraged, even through the hard days.  I struggle to be fully content where I am, but at the same time, right now is so important between me and God and I know He has good purposes for my life and heart.  That’s all I really know.  He’s got me.  Thank you, Jesus!

  • Snow and Canada!

Life can throw you some curve balls sometimes, but here with the Detroit CRU staff team, nothing phases us...even 6 inches of snow and no plows to be seen in our beloved city.

    Detroit Madness 051

We met up at Darin's house to go to University of Windsor for the morning!

    Detroit Madness 049

We helped Ashley get her car out!

    Detroit Madness 052

In case you were wondering, it still looks this way in the city streets!

    Detroit Madness 054

We finally made it to U of Windsor (CANADA!!!)  This was the view outside the student center...so pretty!  The bridge is the "Ambassador Bridge" that connects Detroit and Windsor.  Our team L to R: Dan, Martha, Bryn, Malissa, Me, Amos, and Darin.  We had a lot of fun connecting with several students and meeting new ones!

    Detroit Madness 057

When we got back to the good ole USA (ps the border guy was mad because he couldn't see my face because I was the "girl in the back corner" of the van!  i'm always living on the edge...jk!)  we found a friend in need and the men helped them out.

    It's just all in a day's work!

    Winter IS Beautiful all around...

This past weekend I was in Indy for CCC's "Everyone Sent" conference.  It's designed for Juniors and Seniors who are getting ready to make that step into the real world as college graduates.  We heard great talks about eternal perspective and thought about how to live the gospel in every arena of life that God calls us to.

On a personal note, it just made me glad I am where I am.  I absolutely LOVE my job.  Sometimes I forget it's my job.  It's just life!  Of course, there are bad days, and things I don't always understand fully, but I wouldn't want to do anything else with the best hours of my day.

But on a completely different note, I love how beautiful the Snow is.  I think we are supposed to get quite a load tonight.  We'll see.  I also have been enjoying pictures from "up north" at my childhood heaven on the Leelanau Penninsula.  Check out God's splendor!!!

Pray it keeps snowing because myself and some fantastic friends from Illinois are going to go skiing on Saturday!
